When it comes to choosing child care, many parents have to rely on their senses. Does the facility look clean? Does the provider sound knowledgeable? Are other parents saying good things about their experiences with the provider?

But, what you can’t see or hear makes a difference too. In Kansas, 1 in 3 child care providers are never inspected. One child's death is tragic, but - without adequate oversight - deaths in Kansas child care facilities are becoming far too common. These are deaths that could be prevented with a few precautions, like annual inspections that help identify unsafe conditions.
