The 2012 Designers' Showhouse Bare Bones Preview is this weekend (Feb. 2-5, 2012)!!!!!!

See below or Designers' Showhouse tab above for more information!!!

Child Care Aware® of Northeast & North Central Kansas is partnering with area designers and craftsman to transform a colonial style home in historical Westboro. The Topeka home was chosen for the 32nd Designers’ Showhouse event, an annual grassroots fundraiser that raises much needed support for the agency. Funds gained by the Designers’ Showhouse will allow Child Care Aware® of Northeast & North Central Kansas to continue supporting the community by offering resources to families and child care providers.

The home, located at 3162 Shadow Lane, was recently purchased by Josh and Kimberly Svaty. There will be a total of 17 design areas to be transformed for this family of four. Some of these areas include a completely remodeled kitchen, landscaping, multiple bedrooms and more.

The Bare Bones Preview offers the public an opportunity to tour the home before the transformation begins. The preview opens February 2-5, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The tickets for the preview are $5 at the door, with no reservations required. A White Elephant Sale will be open during the Bare Bones Preview.

In addition to the Bare Bones Preview, a Chili Supper with be held from 5-7:30 p.m. at the home on Friday, February 3, 2012. Attendees will enjoy a warm meal, have the chance to view the home, meet local participating designers and shop the White Elephant Sale. Reservations for the Chili Supper are encouraged. Please call 785-357-5171 for reservations.

The completed 2012 Designers’ Showhouse will be open for tours April 21 to May 13, 2012. More information coming soon!

FYI- On January 18, 2011, a hearing on a bill exempting children from vaccinations was presented to the House Health and Human Services Committee. This bill would allow children to not receive vaccinations if their parent(s) choose for them not to receive the vaccinations based on conscience or personal beliefs. Currently parent(s) may only state religious reasons for exclusion. For more information on this bill and other bills affecting children, visit www.kac.org.

FYI about Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback’s 2013 budget proposal- It includes a measure that would eliminated the Earned Income Tax Credit, a refundable income tax credit for low-income working families.

It also includes a proposal that would assume less than $40 million in funding for the Children’s Initiative Fund. The Children’s Initiative Fund financially assists certain early childhood education programs like the Infant/Toddler Program (tiny-k), Parents as Teachers, Early Head Start and more. For more information on the budget proposal, visit www.kac.org.
